 UPS Rates via OAuth now?

I searched a bit and didn't find an answer to this question. Apparently UPS rates are no longer done via API, but via oAuth. Is the cart software updated to do this?

Long story short, our UPS rep bungled something and we have to create a new account in order to pull rates. (they closed our old one with confusion about how we integrate with Shipstation)

My (admittedly older) version of ECT doesn't work. I get an error when trying to register.

I'm sorry, there was an error

Error, couldn't connect to UPS server
Error: -2147012894: (The operation timed out )

Research shows me:
https://www.ups.com/upsdeveloperkit?loc=en_US

If you were sent here by a software provider to obtain an access key, please share the below with them as they will need to update their integration to OAuth auth-code grant type in order to continue to enable their services.

By June 2023, UPS will no longer issue new API access keys.

UPS has implemented an OAuth 2.0 security model for all APIs to enhance the overall security for our customers, reduce fraud and provide enhanced API capabilities. OAuth replaces access keys with a client ID and client secret for authentication. New OAuth credentials must be created on the UPS Developer Portal.

Hi Graham, they are actually still issuing API keys, but you have to ask them and they send a link. I got one a few days ago as I am ditching ship station and likely moving to ShipTheory which requires an API key at the moment. (You are aware ship station is going to start charging you $60.00 per month to use your own UPS account, no? )

In any case, I am pretty sure (Vince can confirm) ECT has it's own API key and we as users of ECT do not need to get our own.
Additionally (based on info when I got my API key), UPS will still support the API keys for folks who have them. At least for now.

I'm sure Vince can add his take on this, but I am pretty sure you do not need to get an API key, and the cart does not need changes at this time.

Thanks,
David

Hi Graham, I'm not sure which version you are on, but a number of recent updates have UPS changes and I listed some of them below.
At some point, some of the UPS url's changed, and there was a specific mention of a fix for the registration process

v7.4.5
The UPS Access Key is now visible in the admin as this is sometimes necessary when dealing with UPS.

v7.3.2
UPS Tracking stopped working because of changes to the UPS URL's and this has been fixed now.

v7.3.1
vsadmin\inc\incupslicense.asp (was updated - but no notes why)

v7.2.6
An error has been resolved on the FedEx and UPS registration pages.

Thanks for the reply (as always!) For us it's more like $1700 a year in additional fees because we have so many users. Barf.

That said, the UPS rates in Shipstation have been REALLY good. So good that it has almost lost us our UPS account because 80% of the time it's cheaper to use the Shipstation account's rates. You might double check that.

Thanks for pulling up those changes. I'm sure it's related to that somehow (sigh)

I'm in the middle of updating our cart software again, but that's like a 3-4 month job for me. Maybe I can just expedite those few UPS pages.

Hi, Graham, we have 5 users in S/S, so we are in the same boat.
For UPS rates, we have very aggressive discounts. I can't imagine ship station sharing discounts as deep as we get.
We spend more than 500k/yr with them and they take us to NFL games and such.
I could be wrong, but my understanding is we are approaching the peak they offer with some discounts.

I wonder if I can check the UPS rates in ship station without using my account. Are you somehow able to do that while having your UPS account active in s/s?

I find with updates, the longer I put it off, the more difficult it is to update. I use a file compare program and when it's just a few changes, it's easier to merge them in, but it gets way more involved when there are many changes.

Thanks,
David
