Welcome to the May edition of the Ecommerce Templates Newsletter where we have a round up of ECT latest news stories.
It's been a week or so since Google's mobile update and we've seen a lot of people switching their stores to responsive designs in the last three months. ECT itself is now mobile friendly and we're watching the Google search engine listings closely to see what the impact of switching to a mobile friendly site will be.
If you're not familiar with the recent Google news, have a look at our thread on the support forum – in a nutshell Google will be rewarding mobile friendly sites in their mobile search results. If you want to check your site for mobile readiness, Google have provided a testing tool.
If your site isn't already mobile friendly we have Responsive Designs available and you wouldn't need to pay the full license price if you are replacing an existing design with our Replacement Software deal.
We also offer Set Up Site and Site Makeover services to help get things going. If your site is already mobile friendly we'd love to hear if you have noticed any differences in mobile visits or improved Google rankings. Pop along to the support forum and let us know.
The latest ECT version is 6.4.5 and of particular interest to our UK customers we now support Sage Pay v3.0. This is now fully integrated into the cart so there's no longer the need to use the Custom Files. Just in case you can't update right now the custom files are ready for v3.0 and available for download. If you're using Sage Pay you will need to be running v3.0 before July.
We have also added some nice new extra features like showing the review stars separately on the product detail page, the ability to change the verbiage on the checkout buttons at the different stages of checking out as well as a few more css classes.
We are busily beavering away on the major 6.5 release. It's going really well and we hope to be able to announce some of the new features shortly. There is still time to have your say in what is included and we do read and consider all ideas. If you want to participate, leave your comments in the Suggestions Forum and also take some time to read and comment on what fellow ECT users have been asking for.
We are continuing to add new ECT WordPress plugins on a regular basis. The latest plugin provides a Sitemap feature for ECT Wordpress stores which will show all the pages, posts and products on your store as well as generating an xml sitemap for the search engines.
We have also provided a Custom Update plugin. This is in response to a couple of users who reported that their store pages were returning a 404 error. This is an important fix as you wouldn't want the search engines not to be able to find your pages. You can check the server header response on a utility like http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/server-header.php - you should get a 200 OK response. If you don't, get the plugin and let us know if you have any questions about it.
The highly popular ECT SEO WordPress plugin has been recently updated so it now works perfectly with the search engine friendly features introduced in Version 6.4. As an added bonus you can also set title and meta descriptions tags uniquely on the main categories.php page and on products.php.
Updaters as always are available from our updaters page - it doesn't matter which version you are currently running, you can always update to the latest and greatest without going through all previous versions first. If you want to be informed automatically of the new features included in the updaters you can subscribe to the Updater forum - that means you'll receive an email each time a new post is added.
