Client comments from email.
==================
Everything appears to be technically working, however the new view orders screen is almost unusable because it is laid out so poorly. Also, the printable invoice, order details and packing slip which we print for each order now takes twice as much paper, and is almost incomprehensible. Is there a way to choose the old view?

Any suggestions?

Hi Ray

The admin orders page has changed a bit but it's not that radical. Are they definitely seeing it as it should be - I mean the css isn't cached and they're viewing the page with the old css?

Just to add to this thread, I am seeing a need for lots of css changes to get this looking good on the printable view.
I use a logo at the top, and it has the bill to and ship to address all way over on the right side of the page.
We also have a major concern for paper usage.
We go through a case of 10 reams of paper in about a week here.
I am not really keen on doubling that.
That's over $100.00 per month in extra paper alone

This is what we are looking at. I'm also not sure why the tracking number field shows on the printed invoice?
Not good with so much space in between the address lines. I can't imagine why anyone would want that by default.

Hi David

In my testing it doesn't look anything like that and I've just printed out an invoice to double check. How have you added the logo for starters?

It's table based and entered in the admin under Invoice and Packing slip headers/Footers.
I am sure I can overcome this, but I expect if others are using a logo, they may have similar results and may have difficulty with the css to fix it.

<table align="left" border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" class="address" height="117" width="431">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>
<img alt="" height="109" src="https://www.mysite.com/images/logo-main.png" style="float: left;" width="154" /></td>
<td>
<p>
:::EDITED OUT COMPANY INFO - TO PREVENT SE'S FROM INDEXING:::
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p>
 </p>

I think what surprises me, is the default css has a ton of space there on the address lines and it's not something most folks will want in my opinion.
Also note, this is on my DEV site only and not a huge issue for me while I work out the fixes.
I just wanted you to be aware of what I'm seeing so it may help with troubleshooting.

Here's one I just printed out from my test store (no css edits by the way)

Admittedly it doesn't use a logo or address at the top but as is takes up about 66% of one page of A4

David, can you send me an email with exact code you are using for the logo etc and I'll check that here for you?

Actually no need but can you add this

<div style="clear:both"></div>

after

</table>
<p>
</p>

and I'll see if there's a more permanent fix

How can the shipping table be removed from Packing Slips and the outlines of the tables?

There isn't a feature to turn off the shipping section I'm afraid. I just printed with no borders as you can see from my screen shot and I think it's down to the printer settings which should be something like "borderless".

Bummer. Why would anyone need the tracking info on a Packing Slip, anyway? We sure don't.

The border option on Firefox says none and the borders appear on printing.

That's a fair point about the tracking number and I'll see if we can have that removed.

My client closed their browser and cleared the cache. She said "that may have done the trick". Hopefully that is all that will be needed.

Thanks to all who commented and suggested. I appreciate it!

Hi Andy, I thought I probably needed to clear that float.
I just haven't dug in yet to try to get this thing looking the way I want.
Again, it's just on my dev site, so no big rush.
I will wait to see what others come up with and see if you guys issue any updates before I go live.

Actually looking closer it's

<table class="address" width="431" height="117" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1" border="0" align="left">

That is causing it on your site David

Thanks Andy, some of that "junk" was added by the fckeditor.
Just like the open and close <p> tags that are always added at the end there.

Some of my product descriptions are such as mess with a whole bunch of extra span tags added.
I may actually quit using it in the future. It's handy for some quick edits, but all to often it is adding a bunch of garbage.

I like the CK Editor much better than the fckeditor.

Hi Dave
Can you add this to the adminstyle.css as I think this would be the best fix for the problem...

div.orderheader,div.orderaddress{
overflow:auto;
}

We'll try that here on our test site too in the meantime.

While I was there I've added classes to the shipping div of...
div.invoiceshipping # in the case of an invoice
div.packingslipshipping # in the case of a packing slip
In other cases it will have the class ordershipping and that means you can add the following to the ectadmincustom.css
div.packingslipshipping{
display:none;
}
...if you don't want to see shipping on the packing slip. Once these changes have been tested I'll get them added to the updater.
