The product pages were missing the includes.php include line. I've added that and it the css layout is now available.

Make sure you take copies of includes.php
products.php
categories.php
proddetail.php
style.css

from the server so you have good copies.

Andy,

Don't kill me...but I think I didn't get the includes.php file from the server that you updated. I overwrote the one the server and now my proddetail page has lost the CSS. Can you please fix it again. So sorry to have you do this again.

Thanks,

Marcia Henry

Hi Andy,

The charset issue is back with the ?mark showing up in the category names, descriptions, and long descriptions. I believe it happened right after I uploaded an updated includes.php file. I subsequently uploaded products through the csv and although they were showing okay, after the upload all of those products now have the ?mark all over the long description. You can see an example here on my site: https://www.eleganthomeaccents.com/28%22_Ring_Lamp_Cobalt_Glass_Table_Lamp

Not sure what to do now.

Can you please take a look again or let me know if something needs updating on my host.

Thanks,

Marcia Henry

I've fixed using the method I explained above but how are you editing the includes.php file and the csv file?

You'll need to take a copy of includes.php and I recommend the text editor Notepad++ for editing https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.1.html

Andy, thanks for looking into this issue but now the ?marks have all turned into A on the site - please take a look - https://www.eleganthomeaccents.com/proddetail.php?prod=797001.

The strange thing about this issue is that it is only appearing on products uploaded through the cvs. The products I entered manually all look okay. For example, please take a look here: https://www.eleganthomeaccents.com/Bull_Novelty_Clocks.

Thanks,

Marcia Henry

Can you let us know how you are entering the product information into the csv file? Are you copying and pasting from another source?

I generate the csv from a 3rd party source where the vendor post the product listing and the images. Once the file is generated, I download it locally, open it in Excel, and save it as a csv and then upload it through ecommerce csv. NO copy/paste. I've also used the same process to upload products to my other store and there are no issues there. The generated csv does not have the characters. The issue came about after the store update. At the same time I also had the PHP updated on my host. Let me know if this is helpful. Also, is there another tool other than Excel that I could use to save the scv?

Thanks,

Marcia Henry

Can you then open it in Notepad ++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.1.html and then go to Encoding > Convert to UTF-8 without BOM and save then upload it via the csv file upload.

Notepad++ doesn't seem to have the csv file type option when saving. So I used .txt however the saved file is not updating the database. It says "Rows successfully updated 0".

Hi Marcia, the file must be save as .csv have you tried not selecting a save as type or just selecting save. The other thing to check is that the column headings are correct if it worked with excel in the past it should continue to work with excel unless there is a issue with the column headings. Can you post the full error when you get when uploading.

Awesome winners! I was doing 'save as'. So, I went back to my original csv file and followed Andy's instructions and then did as you said...just 'save' and uploaded the file and it fixed the issue.

Thanks to you and Andy. I'm back on track again.
