Hi, I am working through setting up a new responsive template and have followed the instructions for adding the social media buttons, but where they are supposed to appear it instead says "UNKNOWN LAYOUT OPTION:socialmedia". What might I be overlooking?

That would suggest the version of the store you have is from before the socialmedia layout option became available. Updating will sort that out.
