Client Requested Feature. Need suggestions from the "Forum Guru's"...

My client has customers who walk into their showroom and ask staff to do their ordering for them taking staff time away from other activities.

Their requested feature:

Is there a way to create a field or a check box on the admin side to indicate that we have entered an order on a customer's behalf? We are considering either offering a small discount to those who place their own orders, or alternatively charging a small service fee if we have to enter their order for them. To do either of those two things we would need to have a field that we can complete or check that indicates when we entered the order, and then the service fee or discount could be triggered by the presence or absence of text in that field.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hi Ray

You could get customers to create an account and have a discount automatically applied to customers who check out with an account https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/parameters.asp#wholeloginlevel - if the staff have to enter the order they won't get a discount as no account is created.

My client doesn't like the idea of having to add all the customer details for a non-logged in customer each time they placed an order for them. It sounds like they have repeat customers who are too lazy or ignorant to place their own orders.

Is there any way to do anything like the client asked for initially? Or maybe a cart option that when selected would add a charge to the total order?

Short of creating an account, how would you know the customer placed a previous order? Or am I missing something in your request.

I am just following up because my client asked me if it would be possible to add something to the cart that I have no idea how to add.

I am assuming that this business has established, repeat customers who call in or come in to the location asking them to fill out their orders for them. This takes time away from other stuff and they wanted to know if it is possible to add an easy way to add a fee to the order.

I was just asking if there is an easy way to add their requested feature to the cart.

I can't see a way other than using the client login feature. Discount pricing can be added to individual accounts if that helps.

In the orders admin you can edit the order once created and at the foot of the order page there's a handling charge that can be added. I'm not sure if that would also update the amount to be charged to the customers card. You could create a new order from within the admin and that will also allow the adding of a handling charge.

Thanks to all offering help. I appreciate it.

Since they wanted to add a fixed charge for placing orders for customers, I suggested the client add a "product" to their cart called "service fee" with the amount they want to charge. Then just add that "product" to the cart while placing the order for those customers. Seems like that might work for them.
