I'm noticing google picking up the manufacters pages but there is no description meta data, I see the line in the code. I always thought that including a description under the product attributes just showed on the manufacter page, is this the description that would be included in the meta tag as well?

Hi Mark

I'll need to test that out but I thought it used the manufacturer description as it does on the category page.

Hi Mark and Andy,

Neither Top-Level Root Menu of categories.php/asp or manufacturers.php/asp pages pick up dynamic <title> or <description> entered in the Admin Panel.

The necessary "workaround" is to add $variables to your includes.php/asp config file for:

// Dynamic page Title and Meta Description for Menu Root Category (categories.php)
$rootcategorytitle=
$rootcategorydescription=
// Dynamic page Title and Meta Description for Manufacturers (manufacturers.php)
$rootmanufacturertitle=
$rootmanufacturerdescription=

Implement those using my Dynamic Title and Meta Description code available to download free here >>
(PHP only, maybe you can convert to ASP?)

All this should not be necessary and is something that really does need fixing.

I had a look and Gary is referring to the main manufacturers.asp / categories.asp pages - for individual manufacturers they use the manufacturer description for the meta description. Bear in mind that this isn't used by search engines for ranking purposes and Google sometimes changes them anyway.
