I have checked with google and it seems our website has errors that google and others see as not right

I have also had lots of these people who send me emails to say that our website is poor when it comes to search engine compatibility

something has changed but not sure what

Hi Ian

Anyone contacting you out of the blue are likely to be scammers.

Do you have Google Analytics / Console enabled on your sites?

Yes, never respond to these - most all of them are scammers or at minimum will enlist black hat tactics on your site.
They tell you that your site is performing poorly to get you to react.

I try to do the best on my own

but one of the team at the web hosts looked and said I had a lot of old html and redundant code

which makes the website conflict with google search

A delicate pale pink thread has been used to form her small bunny nose and a floppy sheer ribbon adds a touch of glamour as her accessory. </div>

IMHO, on your home page, you have an over use of <h1> tags.

I would also switch the site fully over to SSL considering the upcoming change to Googles Chrome browser (Chrome 68) in July. Globally Chrome is used by 58% of users http://gs.statcounter.com/browser-market-share

https://searchengineland.com/effective-july-2018-googles-chrome-browser-will-mark-non-https-sites-as-not-secure-291623

Sinbad created a very good post about adding SSL to a website
