Hi,

I’m using seofriendly urls and I notice if a category is disabled, any products attached to that category cause a ‘too many redirects’ message from the browser. If the product is set to not display, you get the expected 404.

You may ask why this is an issue if the category is disabled but I realised this because google sent me an ‘index coverage issue’, so it makes it look like the site has some problems. It would be much better if this could throw a 404. Also, I occasionally temporarily disable a category and a ‘too many redirects’ message isn’t great in this instance. Would it be possible to implement a 404 response instead?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve

I tested that here on my wordpress demo http://ectwp.com/Weekend-Sports-Courses - I'll put it back shortly but wanted to check. Wouldn't the solution be to disable the products, you can do it in a moment by selecting the category in the products admin page and choosing the quick entry feature for Display Product.

Hi Andy,

Yes that’s the workaround I’m using. I was just wondering if it would be possible to address this in the next updater in case you ever forget to do this after disabling a category. It would then simply prevent the browser loop and google picking up the issue. Not a big problem but would just be neater
