We have two items that are sold separately but would like to give a 5.00 discount if they buy both of the items. I did a search but did not find anything could be the wording.

There's not a feature to define specific products bought together for discount purposes. Maybe what you could do is make them into a package / bundle and apply the discount to the bundle https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/packages-bundles.asp
