It doesn't look like you have an ssl certificate installed for the site - is that the case? If so, I would speak to your host about getting one and then have a look at the tips here

ok if i request one now from Fasthosts will it affect my site straight away? I have not got the spare time to work on alternations on the site today but plan on updating and working on the site at some point

Fast hosts are asking the following things

Before i click Buy

The domain name you wish to register this SSL certificate to.
Access to DNS ready for quick verification of ownership.
Contacts details ready for your Technical and Administrator contacts.
Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR). This gives you the public and private keys needed to encrypt data between yourself and your customers. Download our guide to find out how to generate a CSR on your chosen Operating System.

It won't affect your site until you make the changes to the web.config file and enter the HTTPS URL in your main admin settings page.

As a bare minimum you would enter the https URL in your main admin settings, in the field labelled HTTPS Store URL. You will also need to check you don't have any paths to files like stats, images, css files etc pointing to http locations or you will get a security warning.

It is advisable to have your whole site on https and that would involved editing the web.config file as outlined here https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=106851 - you would then also set your Store URL to the https form of the address and make sure any absolute links on your site also use https.

Hi Jamie

Yes, I probably would update first. Check everything is working as it should on the new version and then make the https changes.
