Is it possible to track sales by category instead of by products?

In your admin, under order stats, you can select a category to filter the sales stats.
Have you tried that?

I see that option to search each category, but I would like to see a report like the one on the dashboard that shows all the top categories, and maybe last 6 or 12 months. So can the dashboard report be modified, or something that we can see like that?
