Currently running ECT PHP 6.9.4

We are about to move on to a newer web server and need to move the existing MySQL database across to the new platform.

The existing server database connection collation is configured as "utf8_general_ci" whereas the newer server platform defaults to "utf8mb4_unicode_ci".

Just wondering if the change of connection collation will cause any issues or corruption within existing historical data in any of the tables?

Many thanks.

Neil

Hi Neil

I don't think that would cause any problems.

Hi Neil,
As Andy suggests I very much doubt it will cause a problem but if you do happen to get a 'illegal mix of collations' error you can reset the collations in the admin to utf8mb4_unicode_ci as any new tables created with updates will adopt the default collation on the new server.

Hi Phil,

Many thanks for the advice - useful to know just in case any hiccups do occur.
