Hi, we just got an email from our website monitoring service Pingdom.com to advise that following their acquisition by Solar Winds, the free service is being replaced by a basic package that costs $179 per year.

While those web store outage alerts are valuable, that seems expensive for what seems like a very simple "ping" service.

Can anyone suggest a better alternative?

We've seen an open source script called "PHP Server Monitor" that might be installed at a different web host. Has anyone tried this?

We use https://uptimerobot.com which is free.
