Id like to give a free hat to people that spend $300.00. Is there a way to make a coupon like this without the customer first having to order a hat and then getting a discount for it?

I don't see how you can associate another product via a coupon I'm afraid. Might be easier just to put a note in the description that you get a free hat.

I ended up adding the text to add a free hat by using coupon code "hat". Then making the coupon good for $0 dollars. I used the working name for the code, "FREE OSE Embroidered Baseball Cap", so the packing person will see the discount and know to add a hat to the order.

I haven't thought of that, but it sounds pretty good to me.
