We have a lot products and descriptions in an excel file I am wondering if there is a way to add them all at once, or do you have to add them one at a time through the control panel.

You can use the csv upload https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/admin-csv-upload.asp but you will need to format the file so it matches what is required by the store.
