If you go to the shipping methods admin page and click on Edit Shipping Methods for whatever shipping type you are using, have you got methods selected? If that doesn't help, can you let us know what shipping method you are using and if this gave problems before, did you register ok, if the problem only happens for certain destinations or anything else you think may help.
Okay, found the reason why. I didn't have an address registered in my account. However, it didn't prompt me to put in an address when I registered my account either. Also once I did register an address and I clicked on cart it took me to a cart.php page from the e-commerce demo and was empty.... The pop-up mini cart still shows my items... ???
