In the "ASP / PHP Updaters and Hotfix Forum" you will note there is always a list of "Files changed since previous version" in each post.

However, if you compare the "Date modified" of files contained in each updater, or use software like "Beyond Compare" to identify code modifications, you will often find that more files have been altered than those listed in the post.

Yes, the Ecommerce Templates "Updater Checklist page" does in fact emphasize that we must "Make sure ALL files have been copied from the updater download to the server".

But my point is that including a list of files modified could actually lead clients into making the mistake of uploading only those particular files and presuming that is all that is necessary to apply the update.

To avoid that possibility, the suggestion is to not include any list of files changed at all in future Updater and Hotfix posts.

Hi Gary
I see what you are saying . . . but . . .
This last hotfix for instance had a change for Authorize.net where in the ASP version the cart could throw an error and the customer would not be able to pay. I think that's a really important change and worth sending emails to those that have subscribed to the updaters forum to warn everyone. There was also for instance a change in the tracking page where the USPS password is now not included in the SQL statement that gets the shipping service credentials as it hasn't been used for a long time. That's a trivial change that isn't going to affect anybody. So I try to not water down the important changes with these not-so important changes but these will all be listed in full when a nw updater version goes out.
