I am having some strange results with ECT admin login using both Chrome and the new MS Edge browsers. After login, I get a message "Login Correct" message. Then takes be back to the login screen. The only way to get to admin is to copy the url to any of the admin pages EXCEPT /secret_folder/admin.php

IE browser works fine. I can log in with IE browser and copy the adminorders.php link; paste to the Edge or Chrome browser then I can navigate to any place within my admin EXCEPT dashboard (admin.php).

This has been an intermittent issue. I called Hostgator to inquire about session ids, but they could not find an issue. I updated the vsadmin and secret vsadmin folders from PHP 5.6 to 7.1. This seemed to resolve the issue for about a day using Chrome. Now I can't get to the dashboard without the copy/paste a link other than admin.php using Chrome and Edge

Both browsers are using the Google Chromium rendering engine. Not sure if this the cause.

Running PHP version 7.1.8

Thanks,
Brad

That sounds like one of two things.
Perhaps the session variables on the server are not working, and if so, your host should be able to sort that out.

Another possibility is some heavy caching going on.
You can ask your host about that, but also make sure you haven't got something like that set in an .htaccess file.

After about an hour with Hostgator, they could not figure it out. They logged in with Chrome with the same results. They said it must be in the shopping cart code.
So at the moment, I am limited to IE to log into admin.

Ok, this is getting crazy. Now Internet Explorer is giving me fits. After login with IE, it flashes "Login Correct", then give me the correct admin.php page. I select "View Orders" (adminorders.php) from the drop down menu and it takes me back to the login screen. I can manually type in the URL for admin.php and the correct admin page displays. Again selecting View orders takes me back to the login screen.

Any ideas? My hosting provider (Hostgator) was stumped.

Hi, over the years, in the past when this came up, it's has almost always been the session variables on the server and the host was able to fit it.

Ok, I will call Hostgator again and demand that they escalate the issue.

I believe there is a test script that can be installed on the server to check the session variables.
It's also important to tell them (when they point to the software) that no other users are reporting this issue.
This helps narrow the troubleshooting down to the server, or some settings (extreme caching) you might have.

Thanks,
David

The latest...

Hostgator still cannot find any issues on their end. The last person I spoke with thinks there is something in ECT that has a problem forwarding from login.php to admin.php after a successful login.

One interesting note: He had me log in with an incognito window. It works!!!

Not sure what's up but I can do what I need with a private window login.

incognito in your browser will block some things, so I would check to see if you have an .htaccess file on the server, and see what's in it.

Hi Brad, I sent you an email after speaking with the host all is well in the .htaccess file. If you are accessing the admin from a old bookmark try deleting the bookmark and bookmark the link I sent for the admin. If you were using additional security with the login key send me the key and I'll set it in both admin folders includes.php

n Version 6.7 we added a new layer of security using a loginkey in the URL. Details of the set up are available in our parameters page

https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/parameters.asp#loginkey

You probably wouldn't now need to use the second renamed vsadmin method above if you choose to use this new recommended approach.

The issue seems to be caused by two computers using Edge and Chrome. Still cannot get them to work with firewall off, deleted browser history, cookies and cache.

I downloaded the latest Firefox browser. So far, Firefox works perfectly. I am switching browsers.

Thank you all for your help!
