Hi Kevin, I am guessing it was just a coincidence that it was midnight when the cart contents were lost, unless you, or the host have something running that we don't know about. One of the reasons customers lose contents is the cart switching back and forth between www and non www versions of the url, and this can happen with https and non https as well.
Do you have any directives set to force one version of this so issues don't occur?
