For the last few days, people have not been able to checkout because of a UPS error

"There seems to be a problem connecting to the shipping rates server. Please wait a few moments and refresh your browser."

"Error, invalid response from https://www.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate (403)"

There haven't been ANY changes made to the webcart for years. I'm the type that says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it til it is"

The website is www.Metals4uonline.com

Hi Robert, perhaps your host is disallowing connections (or firewall settings) and that is the problem.
Have you asked your host?
Also,, what version of the shopping cart are you using?

Thanks,
David

Our version of the cart only goes back to 5 years ago. 6.5.1

Everything was working fine until a week ago...

Hi, that version is quite old and if I recall, there may have been some changes in that area. It certainly would be a good idea to update because there have been security fixes since that version.
If the host does not have any solution, I would try updating the site.

Thanks,
David

This what UPS is asking me to do, and I have no clue how to do it.

Thank you for contacting us. I apologize as there were not any files to refer to in order to verify and answer your questions. To better assist you, please reply to this email with the following information:

1. URL address you are posting the request file to:

2. Your complete XML, Web Service, JSON, or RESTful request and response files. Be sure to include the security header.

“Please do not remove the user ID/password and Access Key from the request file.” Removing this information make the request file unusable for testing. We highly suggest changing the password for the profile after a resolution has been given.

You will need to debug your application to obtain the XML/Soap Envelope request and response files.

Hi, when you purchase updaters, there is an option to have the update installed for you - https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/asp-updater.asp. However, it seems you have paid for support, so I think you can still have ect do the update (for a small fee), but I'll let Vince tell you how to do that.

He can help with the debug on the UPS issue as well, but it's possible an update would fix that too.
I'll send him a message.

Thanks,
David

Yes, among other important changes the URL for accessing UPS rates has changed so the cart needs an update, and if the problem continues we can take it from there. You can do this yourself but we have a service here for applying the updater...

Thx Vince, but I can't apply an updater. I made some changes years ago to some of the include files, and the record of those changes were lost in a computer crash.

Would I be able to just change the URL in a file to straighten this out?? What is the new UPS URL??

Well, you never know.
The new URL is onlinetools.ups.com
Look in uspsshipping.asp for the function upscalculate

Hi Robert, it's possible that just updating that URL will not work, as it appears here.
If you still have the original update from the version you are on now, you can download the files from the server and run that and the original version through a file compare program (I like the free winmerge program) and that will allow you to (re)document your modifications.
If you don't have the original files, you can probably message Vince and ask him if he has a copy (6.5.1) he can send you.

Once you do that, you can update and work in your modifications. Perhaps some of the modifications won't be needed either with all of the new features that have been added.

Thanks,
David

I'm willing to try updating the URL. If it doesn't work, no harm, no foul.

So, how do I go about getting this information UPS wants from me??

1. URL address you are posting the request file to: (Any clue what that is?)

2. Your complete XML, Web Service, JSON, or RESTful request and response files. Be sure to include the security header. (I have no idea how gather these files...)

You will need to debug your application to obtain the XML/Soap Envelope request and response files. Regrettably, due to the many possible programming languages and environments, we do not support client code directly and are unable to provide you with instructions on how to complete this process for your programming environment.

Did you do that? I gave details above...

I really think this is going to be the cause as the UPS URL did change and maybe they now no longer support the old one. But if you need to dump the XML then add this parameter to your includes.asp file...
dumpshippingxml=TRUE
...then run through a test transaction and you should get the XML displayed on the page. Then take the parameter out again.

Thanks Vince. No I missed your reply. I'll try that first, then dump the XML if it doesn't work.

Again, as always. thanks for awesome, and patient, support.
