I have a dumb question. Is the Paypal IPN required?

It seems that I've had it set to a URL that Paypal cannot access and it has been set that way for a LONG time without any apparent disruption of business. Is it not required any longer?

Hi Graham,
As far as I'm aware it's still required otherwise orders in your admin usually show as unauthorised or 'no ipn' so I'm not too sure why you haven't had any issues.

It won't stop payment being taken though.

The IPN is set dynamically, in other words the actual address set at PayPal doesn't have to work as the address sent to them with the order details is the one that will be used. Seems better to correct it though

The thing is, if you don't set a valid URL in the PayPal admin it won't let you turn on the IPN's even though it is set dynamically. This is why the instructions tell you to set the URL there.
