Hi

My client has suddenly stopped receiving 'order at your store' emails. He's using PHPMailer with Ecommerce Plus PHP v7.1.9. As far as I'm aware nothing has changed on the server.

I saw a thread that suggested putting $debugmode=TRUE; into includes.php and testing with emailfriend.php, but all I get with that is <Undefined index: useaskaquestion in /home/..../public_html/emailfriend.php on line 22> and it doesn't send/do anything.

All 'normal' email traffic seems to be unaffected.
Any idea what can have happened or why emailfriend isn't working?

Thanks

Eric Lewis

Hi Eric
Maybe try updating the store to the latest version and then see if the problem keeps occuring.

Thanks Vince

I've updated to v 7.2.3 and PHPMailer is still failing. From the emailfriend link I now get -

2020-10-12 07:25:21 SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused (111)
SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting
Failed to send mail: SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

But whatever settings I put into the control panel it comes up the same. If I switch to just using mail() they come through OK.
It seems to me like it is a hosting issue and I've tried contacting the hosting company, but they are being unhelpful.

Eric

Hi Eric
If mail() works then maybe that is the way to go. PHP Mailer doesn't really have a lot of benefits apart from allowing you to send emails where SMTP authentication is required. But if you want us to follow up for you then we really would require you to renew your support which seems to be out of date.
