The best thing is to get the real error rather than the generic "500" error. The fastest way is the server logs if you have access to those. You may need to ask your host to help get that.
Not completely sure but I think I have the server log information in regards to the error listed below. I apologize for my limited knowledge on the subject.

Hi, I looked at the site in your profile and I did see the error. It may be best to start by re-applying the updater. Perhaps all of the files were not copied over. Once you go through that, check to see if the problem still exists.
