The standard menu it is working fine until I apply a sub link.
<ul>
<li><a href="../index.php"><i class="w3-margin-right fa fa-home"></i>Home</a></li>
<li><a href="../about.php">About us</a></li>
<ul>
<li><a href="../ash-footwear.php" class="amm-first">Ash Footwear</a></li>
</ul>
<li><a href="../products.php">Products</a></li>
The menu then opens as the image below

Obviously this does not work, can someone please advise me how this should be carried out please?

The <ul> (unordered list) tags start and stop the list, so I am pretty sure you want them there only once.
Get rid of that extra open and close <ul> tags and I think it will probably be fine.

I think it's just a matter of getting rid of the extra <ul> tags
