We have PayPal Website Payments Pro.

Can we have a fully integrated checkout experience where the customer does not leave our site? Right now it does work like that when customer chooses to checkout with 'Credit Card'. But when they choose 'PayPal' for checkout they leave the site. In addition to this not being ideal for customer experience, it is affecting our recorded conversion rates because we are presently unable to ensure the user makes it back to the thanks.asp page after the transaction.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find an answer.
Thank you.

Hi When using Paypal Pro it is required that Paypal Express be offered on the first page of the checkout this is in the agreement that you agreed to when signing up for Paypal Pro. Website customers using any paypal method should make it back to the thanks page, if that is not occurring let us know. What you can do is change the text on the Checkout buttons. Not sure how your tracking but google Analytics does allow you to add the thanks page to the goals after all the goal is to get to the thanks page without proper tracking sites would just be guessing. example proddetail > cart > thanks

Change default checkout button text (Minimum version 6.4.4)

If you want to change the text that appears on the checkout button you can use....

xxCOTxt="Credit Cards"

You can also have different text on the button at different stages of checkout...

xxCOTxt2="Checkout Step 2"
xxCOTxt3="Checkout Step 3"

or use your own custom buttons

imgcheckoutbutton="images/othercheckoutimage.gif"

imgcheckoutbutton2="images/checkoutbutton2.gif" ...will replace the checkout button on the address details page

imgcheckoutbutton3="images/checkoutbutton3.gif" ...will replace the checkout button on the final cart page

Thanks Sinbad, I was not aware of the button name changes.

We have PayPal Website Payments Pro, it's been a number of years, maybe it's called Paypal Pro like you indicated.

At any rate, when the customer is paying through PayPal (not credit card), is there a way they checkout with a modal while not leaving our site? I checkout on sites like this a lot, seems fairly common.

Payments Pro was a combination of PayPal Express and PayPal Direct Payments. With Direct the customer would pay by card in a form integrated in your site. Do you have that enabled in the Payment Providers admin page?

Here is what we are using.

When customers checkout they can choose 'Credit Card' or 'PayPal'.

If they choose credit card, they checkout without leaving the site. (yay).

If they choose PayPal, they go off to the PayPal site and complete their transaction. Most times, they do not return after the transaction which means they never see the thankyou.asp page making the ecommerce tracking missed for that sale.

You can actually help that with Auto Return in combination with Payment Data Transfer (PDT). There are more details about this here...

But with this enabled your customer is taken back to your site without having to click.
