Most of the sites I manage do not use stock management. However, there are occasions when they run a clearance or closeout sale. In addition to the choices of 'off' or 'on' under stock management, it would be nice to have a setting 'selected products' with a check box in the product's admin 'use stock management'.

There is a setting where you can set the stock threshold at which the number will show.
We use 500.
If stock is set above 500 nothing shows, so we set those products to a really high number.
If our supply gets low, or like you, we want to closeout, we set the actual stock level and it shows when the stock is under 500.

Wouldn't that work for you?

...where any stock above 1000 units won't show the In Stock message and quantity in stock to the public.

That is a pain when you only want to do a few items and you have thousands in stock. But yes, that could work.

Just download a csv, set all products to a really high stock level, then the select few, just use the quick entry.
The whole setup shouldn't take but a few minutes.

I know that, but it still does not make it less a pain. :o)

I agree with Marshall.

“One size fits all” or “all or nothing” is never a realistic or reasonable way to go about inventory management… there are always going to be exceptions. Always.

Marshall’s suggestion would be an absolutely great feature to have available… where people can actually start using the inventory management and are able to implement it at their own pace as their business requires and not how the software dictates.
