I have most items that will be shipped in a box. But I have others that can be shipped in a padded envelope. It is kind of a turn off when the customer wants to buy a pair of socks and the only choices are USPS Priority and FedEx Home/Ground. Can specific items have USPS Priority, USPS First Class Mail, FedEx Home/Ground and/or FedEx Express?

Hi Bill
If you enable First Class Mail then items that are above the weight limit will not be shipped First Class. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Vince, I can set the weight of an item to be less than a pound. But when checking out only USPS Priority shows or FedEx. I also have manuals and books and I don't see a way for media mail to only show on the books. If I have a gasket that I want to ship in a box I can make the weight 1.1 pounds. But then 2 gaskets will be 2.2 pounds which would never sell because of the high shipping.
Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill
I see what you mean but no, you can't choose the shipping service per product I'm afraid. One thing that may help however are the containers, which you can set to automatically fit according to the dimensions with the following parameters...

uspsprioritycontainer="auto"
uspsexpresscontainer="auto"

Vince, Thanks for info and link. I see the definition of container but I'm not putting the pieces together. How is container helping? And can you give me an example? How would media mail fit into this issue?

Hi Bill
You can't choose the shipping method per product as we mentioned earlier so this isn't going to make Media Mail available for select items. But with those parameters the correct priority / express flat rate boxes will be used if possible.

Vince, Can you explain how the container size is defined? I recently had a sale of a 35 lb box that is 22" by 12" by 10". This is size and weight of the box in Product Admin. I had Media Mail enabled along with USPS Priority. Media Mail was selected and order was submitted. Totally incorrect to be Media Mail and not Priority. I had to disable all other than Priority, which is going to hurt sales, until I get the shipping correct. So how does this work? Thanks.

Hi Bill
It says here that Media Mail can be up to 70lbs and 108 inches total...

Vince, Are there any plans in future updates to add shipping methods to individual items? Or negate shipping methods from items?
Thanks for all the info. Bill

Hi Bill
I'm not really sure that it would be workable to tell the truth as there would be no end of problems when you start mixing products. Would it be possible maybe to add weight based shipping only for really light products. When setting up the rules you can stop using a rule at a given weight by entering an "x" at that weight.
