I believe its possible to change the picture based on the customer's selection in an option without using an alt id.

But no matter what I do I can't figure out why it's not working. I've added it in the image line in the alt area, but it doesnt change.

Wouldn't this just be because you are using the Magic Slideshow on your site. So when the image changes with the option it is just updated immediately with the next slideshow image?
I just made a small addition to your /style.css file as the margin for the List Price was missing so it was out of line. I hope that's ok.

I was more concerned about changing the pictures of the items in the cart.
Whats happening is that every once in a while the packing people look at the picture and send the wrong color, based on the picture of the item on the invoice.
