Thanks for your further reply and I think you're right about the table being read only - from phpmyadmin I can see that 3 tables (abandonedcaremail, ajaxfloodcontrol and productpackages are currently flagged read only (their table "Types" are also showing as InnoDB rather than MyISAM for the rest of the tables in the database just in case that is part of the problem).
I can't see any way to make the necessary changes from my side of the fence so currently pushing the host to make the changes so the read only flag is removed from the problem tables.... but I think they're still in fire fighting mode after the outage yesterday so not quite as quick off the mark as they would normally be.
