Is there a way to make loyalty points expire?

I'd love to use the feature but can't afford to have customer credit building and building that never expires (that is an accounting nightmare!). I have multiple store loyalty cards and non of them are valid indefinitely.
I'd need to put an expiry date on them, like say 12 months?
