We experience a strange and worrying problem. We use ASP version 7.6.2 which should be the latest of the stable release.

We see one order and no missing order numbers. However when we check Stripe there are two seperate payments with the same orderid. Seperate payments, two different products en two different amounts. When we check with client it appears he did make two seperate orders.

However only one is saved in our system. We did receive 2 confirmation e-mails for both payments in Stripe. But we only received one confirmation e-mail from our store. When I check the cart table one the last ordered item is stored in this table.

Might be client used the back button in his browser and managed to somehow change his first order to become his second order.

This worries us a bit as one client managed to do this, how many more can do so without us noticing?

Greetings,

Jaap

Hi Jaap
The order is not closed until the customer completes the order and normally that's how you want things to work as the alternative is closing the order once the customer arrives at the payment page but uses the back button WITHOUT paying first. (Normally because they forgot to add something or they are just checking shipping, etc.)
If you do want things to work like that, there is a parameter you can add to the includes.asp file which is...
closeorderimmediately=TRUE
But really I don't recommend this and in practise this rarely happens.

Hi Vince,

Thanks for the reply. I understand it is difficult to decide when to close an order. Normal is when a client returns to the site and comes on the thanks page. But as we experienced it is possible to pay and step back all the way and make the same order again, but with another product. In this case the client paid for both, but what if he steps back and not pays for the items he changed in his cart?

We do not want our customers to be able to pay and then step back all pages back to make changes in their orders. Of course they can do this, but this should then be treated as a new order.
If they are able to step back and change the paid order would make it easy to pay for a € 5 product and then change it to a € 100 product. Some of our orders go automatically to our dropship partners and we might not be able to hold such an order.

I am not quite sure what the closeorderimmediately=TRUE for other effect will have. Can you explain a bit more?

Greetings,

Jaap

The effect that this will have is that if the customer gets to the last checkout page then the order is closed so they can't use their back button and this seems to be what you want to happen. However the down side to this is that if the customer then decides they want to add a couple more items to their cart then they have to start from the beginning and add all the items again.

Hi Vince,

Many thanks for the explanation. We will keep an eye on our orders and see if it happens more. If so we will have to use this setting.

Greetings,

Jaap
