I am sure you heard it before. Web traffic translates into dollars in your pocket. And on one level this is true, as long as you close sales while they are there. But the first step is to get them there. After that you can tweak your site to get higher closing percentages as they come. I will show you 4 ways you can increase your sites traffic in this article without spending a dime.
So where do you get traffic? Are you tormented from information overload listening to all the latest free website traffic tactics and not being able to understand any of it? There are many sites that claim they can get you traffic to your site either free or paid. You probably have heard of a few and not sure if they are legitimate or not. For example: Surf for clicks, paid traffic blocks, Google PR increases, article submissions, PPC advertising and more. Are you stumped as to why your website just dropped out of the Google search results? Lets go though some simple tactics to getting some free website traffic without all the gimmicks. All of them deal with getting your site to appear for focused keywords on the search engines.
1. Dynamic Titles and Meta Tags This is one of the best ways to get MORE of your pages indexed on the search engines. The more pages you have indexed the better the possibility of one coming up for a keyword search. Most of the basic keywords out there for each industry are just polluted with competition that your site may have a very difficult time fighting for visibility. By using the Dynamic title and Meta tag technique that ECT supplies is a simple way to get category and product names indexed. You will find that traffic will increase for searches of specific names and key phrases you never thought would be worth targeting. This is a MUST SEO technique. 2. Keyword-rich AND sensible content You may have heard the phrase ‘Content is King’. Content is what search engines use to determine where and when your pages appear in the search results for searches. That means if you don’t have any focused content, you are not going to earn any relevance to the search engines. Be sensible, don’t over do it. Make it readable to your visitors and they are not annoyed by keyword repetition or jumbling. To some that means writing or placing articles on your site to bait the webbots, but the pages that get indexed are not your product pages so the end result is going to be low conversions of visit to sale. Not very effective. I will explain the easiest, most obvious and effective way. Make your Product names, and product descriptions in short – DESCRIPTIVE. Be sure to use the product detail pages of the ECT cart, not just the product page. Include both short and long descriptions, and don’t just place images or a product id. Text is key to content. Be sure to use Alt tags and Anchor text. This is another simple way to increase relevancy and add content to your pages for the spiders, and it is very transparent to the visitor. Carefully choose your anchor text for your links. For example instead of ‘click here’ use your keywords ‘Blue Widget’. Add alt text for your images and be sure they also have keywords or a relevant description.
3. Sitemaps Use a sitemap as search engine food, and even force-feed them with their FREE Webmaster services with the XML Sitemaps Protocol. Google Base is a free product listing service that will bring shoppers looking for your products straight to the product detail page. If you find creating these files tedious, I carry the tools you need for generating the compliant files for your ECT cart at a reasonable price. 4. Links Of all the effective website traffic tactics that can get you results, linking to and from other websites is the one of the most widely used methods. Just be sure that the Internet business you are exchanging links with is very related to your own business. And of course, don't over do it. Also be sure to place your link in your emails, business cards, and other business correspondence. These methods, if employed properly, will not only make your web site popular but will help you achieve your desired result – a higher conversion rate.
