Pre-sales questions only
(More Details...)

Hi,

I have a client who sells both off-the-shelf and made-to-order products. I am creating a "traditional" online shopping cart for his stock items - all straightforward and no problem.

For the made-to-order products, he currently takes a deposit in-store at his retail premises, and when the item is ready to ship from the factory, he sends the customer an invoice for the balance, and the customer either pays by BACs or rings the shop to pay by credit card.

When he has his online shop running, he would like to be able to send the customer an email with a link which gives them a third option - to pay online directly.

The amount of the balance will always vary from customer to customer (and they will always pay their deposit in person).

Can anyone suggest any way this could be done in ECT?

Many thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

I think you should be able to use the donations feature for that. The text can be modified so it becomes a general payments page - have a look here and let us know if you have any questions https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/donations.asp

Andy,

I am starting to offer a few custom made products with 4-6 week production times. I would prefer to take a 50% deposit on order and the balance when ready to ship. I have been reading about modifying the "donations" page as a direct payment option, but I don't know if that would allow a customer to "check out" so I can see all the options chosen so I know what needs to be produced.

As an example, I would like customers to be able to purchase the seat below, after chosing their options, and only need to pay a 50% deposit upon order.

Suggestions on ways to have all the option selections relayed to me and a deposit collected?

Hi Mark

Could you offer a 50% discount or coupon that they use initially and then when they pay the balance?

That sounds like it could work, as long as I'm not asking them to place 2 different orders for 50% off. Should I use a coupon up front and then the donations/direct payment page to request the balance to not generate a second half-price order?

Either would work fine really so whichever you prefer.

I have a trick here where you can send the customer a link and populate the amount in the donations page
https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=108615

This may be more friendly for the customer where they can just click a link in their email to pay the balance.
We took ours to the next level and have it submit.
Click my username and click the link under "cool links"
