Hello,
A few years back I had multiple ecommerce clients. I used ECT software and frequently sought help in these forums. The service and assistance were outstanding. I still have one active ecommerce client using your software at https://www.shopstoneage.com/.

I've been teaching myself responsive design in the last few months, and this client has expressed an interest in making his site responsive. His site is using Ecommerce Plus Cart Version PHP 6.4.6 and I would like to likely the generic responsive version (http://www.ectdemostore.com/generic/)

Questions:

 • Would making the generic footer (http://www.ectdemostore.com/generic/) into 3 columns be a simple task?

 • The generic sample is 990px wide. Can that easily be changed to 1140px?

 • Finally, would I be able to purchase the generic version as an upgrade: https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/upgrades.asp

I have to say I'm excited to be back and learn new things
Deborah

Hi Deborah

Welcome back

You can do all that and we'd be more than happy to help you with that here.

Just purchased the generic responsive version. My client has his live site at: https://www.shopstoneage.com/

I've created a new folder on the server and uploaded all the files. Can I have two instances of the store running and set the database connection for the new store while I design the responsive site without interferring with the live store? All of the new files were uploaded to a separate folder: https://shopstoneage.com/new/

It's been a while since I've worked with ECT so I don't remember exactly how I handled website redesigns....

You can have two instances. Have a look here for more details https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101728

I've uploaded the store files to the new folder and created the database, but when I try to login in vsadmin, I'm getting an error: https://shopstoneage.com/new/vsadmin/admin.php

When I used to do store sites, I had to set the path to SSL in the includes file -- looking over the manual now, but would appreciate any help.

It looks like the two are on different versions. I would run the updater on both.

Hi Andy,
I purchased the full Generic Version PHP plus on 7/9/18. Should I just have purchased an updater to make the move to responsive? Do I need an updater now to update the current store?

Not really as the old site isn't responsive and just running the updater won't change that. The important thing is that both sites are on the same ECT version.

I'm confused. How do I get them on the same version? I want to design the new responsive store and have the owner approve it before launching it while keeping the old store active.

What version is the old site on? It may be you just need to copy the vsadmin folder from the old to the new with the exception of includes.php

That supports css layouts so you can copy the vsadmin folder over and update when you are finished.

So I should copy the new vsadmin folder the cart I just purchased over to the old live site? And can you send me the URL I'll need for running the updater? Thank you for you patience. It's been a few years since I worked with ECT

You would do the opposite, copy the old vsadmin in place of the new one.

Don't worry about the updater yet.

So I've copied all the files from the OLD vsadmin to the new folder (making sure to overwrite existing files). I was able to login to the admin section, but am still getting an error if I visit other pages: https://www.shopstoneage.com/new/index.php and https://www.shopstoneage.com/new/products.php. My goal here is to be in design mode, so I need to be able to see these pages and make the necessary edits to the menu and CSS files to achieve the look my client wants as he moves to responsive design.

Not sure what step to take next to get there.

Can you check the new site is using the same db_conn_open.php file as the old one?

Overwrote the new db_conn_open.php with the old one, but I'm still getting the same error: https://www.shopstoneage.com/new/index.php

The error Unknown column 'adminStoreURLSSL' in 'field list'
Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_assoc() on boolean in /home/shopstoneage/public_html/new/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php on line 2184

suggests the a mis-match in the files and database version.

I would completely delete the vsadmin (new test site) and upload a complete copy from the working site.
In my experience this should get it working and ensure the version of all vsadmin files are matching the database.

After talking to my client, we're actually going to take down the live store and put up a temp page. So I'll be installing the responsive store fresh. Do you have a standard check list on what I need to back up other than the database for me to get the new responsive site up and running? When backing up the database and then reinstalling it, will that include all the info for payment providers and shipping too? I want to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Hi Deborah

We don't have a checklist but if you make a complete back up of the site and database you can be sure you have all bases covered.
