Updated from 6.6.1 to 6.7.2, and the addition of the "Update Shipping Estimator" button is nice. Thanks for that.

What I've noticed with this change though is:

1) Before I calculate the shipping estimate, select a state, or enter a zip code the verbiage for "Best Rate Using" and "U.S.P.S. Shipping are already prepopulated. This was not the case in my 6.6.1. Any chance of getting this portion left blank before actually clicking "Update Shipping Estimator" ? It seems presumptuous that USPS will be the best rate, which is not the case.

2) A state NEEDS to be selected. Again, this was not the case back in 6.6.1. To be honest, the field doesn't even need to be there in the first place. That only thing that matters when calculating shipping is the zip code, to my knowledge.

3) If for some odd reason a state absolutely needs to be selected to get an estimate, please put an error or some verbiage saying that a state needs to be selected IF you have a zip code inputted but have not selected a state. I thought the estimator was broke after the update, I put in a zip code and clicked update and nothing happened. It took me a while to figure out that a state NEEDED to be selected.

There isn't a feature to remove the State field if you are using USPS / UPS.

Yes, I am very aware of the help file but I feel as if you did not fully understand my question. I'm honestly not sure how much better I can communicate the problems but I will try again.

1) "Best Rate Using" and "U.S.P.S. Shipping" are prepopulated in the cart before determining if USPS is actually the best rate. Please fix. It was not like this in 6.6.1.

2) The shipping estimator will not estimate unless a state is selected. Please fix. It was not like this in 6.6.1.

3) If the state selector is intended to be forced, then please make a popup indicating that a state must be selected to continue with the estimate. Please fix. It was not like this in 6.6.1.

What shipping methods do you have enabled on the store and I'll see if I can find an old version to test with?

For now, I just div.estimatorchecktext, div.estimatorcheckcarrier{display:none} to hide it. Also, defaulted the state to Alabama too.

Could it be you are using "show all shipping carriers together" where before you were using "Show alternate carriers in menu" in the main admin settings page as I can't see any changes between the versions?

I've been testing here and for USPS shipping and FedEx shipping together and with those two you will not be asked to enter a state. All the information is collected for all the shipping carriers you have selected which is now things need to be so you can compare the rates. But as neither USPS nor FedEx require a state, a state dropdown is not displayed. Are you sure you don't have for instance Weight Based Shipping split by state?
The "Best Rate Using" isn't pre-populated, it is set after scanning through all the shipping services you have enabled and finding the best rate available among them. This will happen if you are using the "show all shipping carriers together" as Andy mentioned. If you select the "Show alternate carriers in menu" method then the rate for the service the customer selects will be displayed.

Andy, I do have it set to "Show all shipping carriers together". I've had it set like that for a long time, and no change was made when I updated from 6.6.1.

Vince, the state dropdown is definitely present on my estimator and required for getting a rate on the first cart page. I do not have Weight Based Shipping split by state to my knowledge.
