seems code looks correct but some products (most) are messed up after categories page
Prod detail = sorry prod not avail
Links are filled in with "-" per includes but can't reach to products or purchase

Troubleshooting reveals my dash "-" which is used alot in my P/N's.
There is a rewrite for Period"." but not for "-"

rewrite for the dash?

Something to do with htaccess maybe??

I seem to have some weird stuff in here.

Hi Merritt, is it occurring on all or just some products, do any of the item not displaying have special characters in their name? Those entries were probably there for a reason, what I would do is make a backup of the .htaccess file rename the backup .htaccess_origianl, then create a new .htaccess file with only the SEO code and upload that to the server, check the site and see if that made a difference.

all the products at product detail level.

On the pages with the listed products you can add them to cart

Clicking on product gets either 404 or Sorry doesn't exist

Pulled all the code back out & Store seems to be working

Is there any specific documentation with regard to special characters in a product name when using SEO friendly URLs?

I'm not clear EXACTLY which special characters can or cannot be used ... or is it simply that we can't use ANY characters in the first/number row?

Thanks!

Hi Tim

You can't use a dash or slash - those are the main culprits.

You also cannot use hash tags (#), or "&" signs. You also need to remove hyphens, slashes, hash tags and & signs from all your category names as well. I tried to replace those symbols with their corresponding HTML codes (e.g. #45; for hyphens) and they still did not work. So they must be removed altogether from both product names and category names.
