Hi Mike

It is a version problem. If you open aa-test/vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php in a text editor you 'll see this on line 7

//Build: 6.2.4.000

If you open /vsadmin/inc/incfunctions.php in a text editor you 'll see this on line 7

//Build: 6.7.3.002

So the test site is using older vsadmin and inc files and why you are getting the errors.

Copy all the files from the main vsadmin folder to the test vsadmin folder and the problems should be solved.

ah, hang on. Of course the root version has been updated since. I'll try copying that across, rather than my original version. More anon.

and ... now sorted. Obvious, when you know how!

I don't know if the trouble finding the cause is a reflection on my stupidity or the relative complexity of the set-up/software, but I suspect it's the former ...

Thanks for all the help.

One question - related to the above. I was wondering about installing PHP etc (on Windows; I'd be using XAMMP) locally for development/testing etc. Do you have any views on whether this is, overall, an easier path to go down?

I think if you are setting up a dev site it really should have its own database unless you are just testing designs changes. A local server isn't hard to set up and we have some help here https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/tutorials/php.html
