Is it possible for a customer to specidy a desired date for delivery in the product detail page? This would be for local deliveries of course.

You could use the pop up calender date picker available from Phil at Bettapages

Once set up the custom fields show on the product detail pages. The instructions are in the ECT user manual on pages 56, 176 & 181.
