mcrypt is still being used in
dumporders.php
inccart.php
incorders.php
incthanks.php
...and referenced/set in includes.php

After upgrading to PHP 7.2.1 my error log filled up with notices about mcrypt having been completely removed. I guess this was deprecated in PHP 7.0 but now will result in errors in 7.2. I rolled back to PHP 7.1, but that still leaves mcrypt non-functional and outdated.

I think it may be time for an ECT code update, rather than having everyone install the outmoded mcrypt via PECL.

I realize that PHP 7.2.1 is kind of "bleeding edge," however, it's inevitable that this will be an issue for all ECT users soon enough.

Hi

Thanks for bringing that up - we haven't announced support yet for PHP 7.2.1 - just up to 7.1 as you say - but I'm sure we'll get those changes made before it becomes mainstream.

Hi OrientalOutpost
I presume you are using SagePay as that is the only code that now uses mcrypt. I'm in touch with them about an update to their API but the code they have on their website still uses the deprecated function. I'll let you know though when I hear something.

Hi OrientalOutpost
I got in touch with SagePay but they say they aren't working on a solution for this and aren't really acknowledging that they consider this a problem at all. Could you maybe get in touch with them too and see what they say? Hopefully when enough people bother them they will start to move.
