Hi,

My client has opened a PayPal Business Account, given me his login and told me to intergate it with ECT.

The Admin panel has 6 different PayPal options from Payflow to Express. Which one do I use?

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim

Depends on your client really. The two most common or PayPal Standard or Express. For Standard they go though your store checkout and at the last stage moves on to PayPal to login to a PayPal account or pay via credit card there before returning to your store. Express is similar but you go to PayPal from the main cart page, bypassing the store checkout. If you wanted users to stay on the store and pay via Credit card you would probably want PayPal Pro (ssl certificate required). You can also have a combination of any of these methods, you are not restricted to enabling just one.

Thanks for the quick reply Andy. I've implemented PayPal Standard following the instructions at https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/paypal.asp and it appears to be working.

Just one thing that's puzzling me, on returning to the merchant site from PayPal the message at thanks.php says "...be in touch as soon as the funds have cleared". In vsadmin orders there's a button above the order saying "Pending: Capture". Also, in the confirmation email from PayPal it says: "You authorised a payment of 6.20 EUR to My Lovely ECT Site. Your funds will be transferred when the merchant processes your payment."

From all this I assume that the site owner needs to manually approve the transaction. Is this a function of the PayPal setup or just the way it is with PayPal.

Cheers,
Tim

You shouldn't get that message by default. In the payment providers admin page for PayPal Standard can you check you have

Transaction Type : Sale

Andy,

I was blindly following the implementation guide at https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/paypal.asp instead of thinking it through. With transaction type set to "sale" it's processed correctly by PayPal and the PP confirmation email now states "You sent a payment of €6.20 EUR to..."

I'm getting this message on thanks.php though "Thank you for your order! Your order has been approved by PayPal with a status of "Pending". We will be in touch as soon as the funds have cleared." But that may be correct as, logging into the clients PP account the payment is marked as "unclaimed" and I'm being prompted to accept/refuse/archive it.

I've passed it back to the client to progress and I'll report back if I hear from him.

Cheers,
Tim
