Hi!
Just updated to 6.8.5 and am getting the following error when choosing Sort By Popularity via the product detail page:
Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 error '80040e14'
ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified.
/vsadmin/inc/incproducts.asp, line 492
Under Main Settings - can not choose Popularity as sort by, same error.

Hi Julie That's odd, it's working fine here - you're using a MS SQL Server database, right? Did you try running the updater again? You don't have any code edits or Mods around there, do you? Andy Please feel free to review / rate our software

Hi Andy,
Just ran the updater again...no change.
Same error if I try to use Default Product Sort Order: Popularity (all others seem to work, can set by Price, Manufacturer, etc).
Can't select Popularity under Options for Customer Defined Sort. Same error.
No major mods at all anymore... I use the AU02 Image (Servelink) & DLSS Google Mechant Lister. The only tweak I do is change the code to not show Free Shipping discount (proddetail.asp).
Can you check to see if admincats or adminprods was changed? They weren't on the list.

No errors after running updatestore..
I believe I was on 6.8.3... I checked the changed files for 6.8.4 and made sure those were updated.. that was my first thought, too.

Yes..... I just went through all the admin files to make sure they were all dated today........
I'll run the updater again and see what happens.

Does this maybe have something to do with this? Grasping at straws...
my includes [red]sortoption1="Name"[/red] sortoption3="Price: Low" sortoption4="Price: High" sortoption9="Newest" sortoption10="Brand"
sortoption1="Sort Alphabetically" - there are are now 2 options (asc/desc)
[red]Update... sortoption11="Name: Z-A" works for the sort alpha [/red]
Example: sortoption1="Name A-Z" ??? - "Name Z-A"
To change the default sort text labels in the product filter bar, you can use the following
sortoption1="Sort Alphabetically" sortoption2="Sort by Product ID" sortoption3="Sort Price (Asc.)" sortoption4="Sort Price (Desc.)" sortoption5="Database Order" sortoption6="Product Order" sortoption7="Product Order (Desc.)" sortoption8="Date Added (Asc.)" sortoption9="Date Added (Des.)" sortoption10="Sort by Manufacturer"

I just had a thought & you may want to pass this on to Vince...
I noticed that if I pulled up all of the products for that category - they all show 0 under the Popularity Quick Edit. (All products show 0 except the ones I viewed today....)
Could it be there are no products to show as nothing is popular - and that error is being thrown?
Never mind - added 1 to all Pond Med products, checked Cust Defined Sort: Popularity. Reloaded page - NO dice, same error.
I'm out of ideas...

Oh GREAT! Now I can't access any product page as it's stuck on the popularity error (since it's selected in the drop down on the page).................forgot to go back and select something else. 2 of my browsers are stuck in the error.
Guess I have to wait until my session clears.... tried clearing history, didn't help.
Gonna go play outside.. this is giving me a headache....

I checked your product page and it shows fine so your visitors aren't seeing any problems. The quick entry shouldn't be showing as zero and I imagine that's where something is amiss. Andy Please feel free to review / rate our software

I don't have either of the Popularity checked in the main settings, so my site isn't affected. Just can't implement the new feature which is the reason I upgraded. The code on line 492 - rs.open sSQL & sSortBy, cnn Julie Browns Summit NC USA

Well, turns out it is not just Popularity that is throwing the error.
I'm also getting it on all the new sort by choices: Number of Ratings Average Ratings Number of Sales

Thinking about it, having popularity at zero at the beginning would be right as it's just starting the process so there wouldn't be any counts. If you'd like to send me on your FTP / control panel details I'll take a look for you. Andy Please feel free to review / rate our software
