I'm having issues with PayPal after 15 years with them. They are processing fraudulent credit cards and saying I did it and charging me a fee. I never see the card so how is it my fault? Plus I've shipped the order and lost a total of $125.00 on just one order. This is about the fifth time in about 3 months.

So, I'm looking at switching e-payment providers and this one is rated #1 when I search. So, I'm wondering if anyone else is using them in the USA and what is your feelings on them.

Thanks,

Walt

Hi Walt

We manually check all orders we receive for possible fraud as well as that being done automatically by the payment provider - is that something you have in place?

Which alternative payment provider are you looking at as I assume a similar level of automatic fraud checking will be in place.

Andy, I added a note to the Status Change email that tells customers that if they are a new customer they must verify the credit card by answering the email to that effect.

I've seen no other way to verify the cards other than calling people which I really don't have the time for. How do you verify a card?

It's not the card so much as the buyer. Check the IP address and if anything looks suspicious dig deeper by looking into their physical address and phone number. Scammers will almost always use a free email service usually one that doesn't reference the name on the order. If you're in doubt you can always call the number on the order.

Fraudsters usually want rush shipping as well.
I'm curious if the $125.00 order had a faster shipping service.
Walt, I don't think changing payment providers will fix this honestly.
What do you see in the admin under AVS and CVV?
Was the billing and shipping address different?

Andy, in each case they use the customers home address and all. This last one I think was the customer them self doing the scam as it was a address in Mexico shipped to an agent in Colorado. It arrived there and as far as I know picked up but I have no check on that.
iPayments claims they do fraud checking on the card at the time of processing. Also, PayPal doesn't require the security code on on-line purchases but do on the Virtual Terminal which the vendor uses to enter a transaction.

Dave, no, it was a 1st class USPS shipment on that one. PayPal charged me $20 over it. I have another one pending with them along the same lines but a smaller amount. I did spot one that looked hocky and stopped the shipment and made a complaint to PayPal which did nothing.

As a one person company it's hard to manufacture, package, ship, etc. and also have to try and sort through 40 orders a week to see if any of them are fraudulent purchases using credit card. This has all started in the last six months.

Andy, I checked and there is no way to tighten the credit card purchase on PayPal. I went through every page I could find but nothing.

iPayments doesn't have to link to their website like PayPal, but there code resides on my website so customers don't leave it. Not sure yet what I want to do on this but it's getting to be a real pain lately.

Thanks for the help.

Andy, No. I have the standard. Never felt I had a reason and setup seemed more complicated. Guess I'll have to look into it.
