Looking in the admin of one of my clients sites it states that there are no new versions available and the last check is 02.04.2018 - currently the version shows as 6.5.4

Would the version of PHP (5.3.28 - I know, it's older than gods granny ) influence if the later version 6.8.5 shows as available?

Hi Steve, its possible the updater checker is disabled you can check in the vsadmin/includes.php to see if the following parameter is present in the file.

$disableupdatechecker=TRUE;

Thanks for the swift reply. $disableupdatechecker is not in the includes.php file. There is not another vsadmin directory

Hi do you know if the site is using TLS1.2, if you also see could not connect Server on the right of the admin that would indicate that TLS1.2 is not enabled, which is the protocol that is needed to get the notification of updates

Hi Steve, after looking into this it does appear that version 6.5.4 did have a issue displaying recommended update is available sorry about the problem it should be sorted out tomorrow.

After having a good, hard look at this it seems that there is a problem with the code pre v6.5.7 which means the request for the latest updater versions fails and so it is reported that no updaters are available. Later versions of the store use a newer method to connect and don't have this problem. So, sorry for the problem and thanks for bringing it to our attention, and the resolution in this case would be to update.
If you are going to update then you really need to be on a later version of PHP. That version 5.3.28 is over 5 years old and there will be many security fixes since then.

I shall update the website to the latest version of ECT and switch the PHP version to 7.
