We're currently using version 6.6.2 of the ECT software. We've been using the PHP Dreamweaver template for quite a few years now and we need to do some updates to the look and functionality of the site--namely, we need it to be responsive so it looks nice on phones and tablets, and we need to switch the whole site to SSL.

What would be the best way to do that? I'm thinking I'd like to switch to Wordpress. I have given some thought to switching to a completely different ecommerce software like maybe WooCommerce, but it looks like that would be expensive--you have to buy expensive plugins to get functionality that is already included in these templates.

I seem to remember reading somewhere a while back that ECT would allow a person to cross-grade the software--i.e. because I already own the Dreamweaver version, they would give me a discount off the Wordpress version. Is that correct?

So my idea would be to create a Wordpress site using something like OceanWP and then add ECT functionality to it. How hard would something like that be? Is there a step by step tutorial anywhere on how to switch from a Dreamweaver template to a Wordpress template?

Thanks for any and all input.

Hi

We have steps for the conversion here https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/wordpress/wp-convert.asp and the replacement offer here https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/replacement-software.asp

Let us know if you have any questions about that.

If this was you, would you move to Wordpress or would you move to one of the responsive designs?

If it's a site with a lot of non-store content and articles I'd go with wordpress otherwise a regular responsive design.

Just had a quick glance through the documentation and had a question. Is there any way to stop theme updates from overwriting the ECT-specific lines of code? Seems like updating Wordpress and updating the ECT software might not be easy. Thoughts?

All you would need to do is use a second header.php file and we can explain how that works etc.
