The recent email about ECT Version 7.0 asked for new feature suggestions, so it seemed like a good time to share a few notes we've jotted down. These few, separate suggestions are all related to the checkout process in cart.asp.

1. Add a header at the top of the cart page that shows the 4 steps you’re going to go through: Cart, Address, Shipping & Payment and Receipt. Highlight the step you’re currently on.

2. Show cart contents and address(es) on final page of checkout screen. This gives the user a chance to review the complete order details before Submitting.

3. We get occasional cases where customers mix up the Billing and Shipping address. We’ve always attributed this to users not reading or paying attention, and have bolded and increased the size of the labels.

When researching this, we did a quick survey of a few dozen popular websites and find something we didn’t expect: Nearly all of the stores we surveyed now ask for the shipping details first, and then check if the billing is different. It wasn’t always this way, but it seems to be the way things have changed to. If it’s a new “standard,” maybe it’s worth mimicking.

4. Can address validation be added as an optional feature? It might use the USPS API to check the address. This can work pretty well for the US and Canada.

Thanks for reading!

I like the idea of a one page checkout page, where each section opens up as you go down the page, once you’re down to the bottom you can see alll of the information on one page.

The US Postal service API for address validation it helpful, but not nearly as powerful and some 3rd party tool.
Most all of them are paid. see my post here https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=110167

It is done with no hacks to the core files and works perfectly. We use the smartystreets
