Streamlining search

Hi,

We have a lot of products with terms such as 40th in the product name, description and search terms and these are shown fine when customers search for 40th for example.

The issue is when a customer searches for 40 without the th as it's returning results for products with 40 in the product ID of which there are a lot so most of the results they are shown are not relevent.

This is happening in a lot of customer searches when they are searching for anything from 1 to 100 and because we have a lot more products where numbers are not used it is causing customers to leave the site as it's also showing these in the results.

We have tried a placeholder in the search input (eg. 40th) to try and prompt them to add st, rd or th after a number but it does't seem to help in many cases.

We have the following set:
$nosearchsku=TRUE;
which stops the SKU being searched and I was hoping there was a setting or way to stop the product ID being searched on the front end but I cannot seem to find one.

The products ID's are not something that can be changed unfortunately.

You have probably already seen this https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/parameters.asp#speedsearch but those are the only tweaks currently available for disabling search on specific criteria.

If you'd like to put it in the suggestions forum we can see if that can be expanded.
