Hello ECT,
During checkout when your directed to the shopping cart (cart.php) page the items are listed BUT the Shipping and Handling costs are gone and this text in red "Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect." is on the page. I looked at the shipping and U.S.P.S. settings and nothing has changed. Any ideas why this started happening?

Hi Paul

It could be a temporary problem with connection to the USPS server but I assume this is a relatively recent version of the cart, correct?

Hi Andy,
Sorry to bother you. Yes the site is up to date 6.9.4
This has been happening since yesterday 11:00 am Central time.

Also the "Country and the "Zip Code' used in the main settings is shown.

Here's the url http://www.kofc9893.com/cart.php you'll have to add a item to the cart.

One thing I noticed is that you are missing this line on all your front end store pages meaning I can't add to cart

<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/ectcart.js"></script>

Hi Andy,
The line "<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/ectcart.js"></script>" has been added to the .dwt page and saved to all the pages in the root directory.

No change.

I can add to cart now which I couldn't before and I see the red warning message.

In your admin, can you go to shipping admin > shipping methods usps admin and check the Username showing there?

I'd willingly take a look but I'm not going to know if the username is correct. It might be worth contacting USPS to see if there has been any changes on your account

Thanks for the info.

I called USPS Tech support. There is at least 1 hr. hold time so I elected to have them call me back instead of waiting on hold.

I'll let you know what happened.

While you're waiting for them to call back, do you still have the email they sent you when the account was first set up. I'm not sure if that would have any information they might ask for.

Hi Andy,
USPS called back and after switching me too different people they still couldn't help me. They said to send an email to the support staff describing the problem along with a screenshot.

This is what I emailed them.

I talked to your support tech Marie and she requested I send you a screenshot of the problem I’m having with my customer’s web store.

As you can see the cart page has this error message “Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect.” The shipping cost is missing and the country and zip code is visible. They aren’t supposed to be visible.

I’ve been in contact with the developer of the software (Ecommerce Templates) and we went thru the site checking for incorrect information or coding and it all checks out.

He thinks the error message is from the Ecommerce Template software not able to connect to your server. This started to happen around 11:00 am yesterday. It worked fine before then and all my other Ecommerce Template sites are working fine. He asked me to ask you if any changes or updates were made to the account in the last 48hrs.

Hi Andy,
I still haven't heard back from the USPS about the problem. No surprise, I guess you can call it "snail support" like the mail.

I created a new USPS account just to see if it would work with a new account. No luck. The same error message comes up.
Is there place I'm missing where you add the USPS password?

I'm trying to work around the problem. I turned off the shipping and that took away the error message. The customer is willing to go with just a handling charge till the shipping problem is corrected.

When I setup a handling charge it doesn't show up on the cart or get added to the total. Are the shipping and handling tied together? is that why it's not working?

The USPS username can be entered in the main admin settings page, in the shipping section there, it can also be added in the USPS admin page under shipping methods - it should be the username entered in both rather than the password - can you check you have entered the username, and not any password?

As a temporary measure I would go to the postal zones page and set up a rule like this

Max weight shipping method
--1000-----------10

So that you get a flat rate of 10 dollars
Then in the main admin settings choose weight based shipping

If you choose Don't Add Shipping in the main admin settings and then enter a handling charge that will show on the last stage of checkout - it won't be in the shipping estimate but will be added to the final grand total.
