My "ask a question button" returns a Sever 403 error. Emails are working fine, only the ask a question button returns an error. I set the emailfriend.php file permissions to 755 and I still get the error. Any ideas?

403 Error is forbidden, so I would ask the host if they have blacklisted the page.
This has come up before and seems to be the culprit in most cases.

Thank you, db. Just to be sure, should I inquire about the emailfriend.php page?

Thanks again.

Yes, that's correct as that is the page used for the ask a question feature.

I know there was one host who insisted that they wouldn't whitelist the email a friend page unless it used Recaptcha - just in case they ask, that is a possibility.

I recently moved hosts from Godaddy to BlueHost, and now this 403 Forbidden error is happening on both my Ask a Question and Email Friend. BlueHost insists nothing on their end is blocking access to that page, but frankly I just don't believe them. I've fought back and forth with them, but with no resolution. Is there anything else that could be causing this?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris

That certainly suggests it's a permissions problem - have you shown them the error so they can see it happening? I know Hostgator used to block the file but I'm not sure about Bluehost to be honest.

Yes, I have shown them the error, and at first they said that it appeared to be file permissions on their end. But after some further "investigation" they said it actually wasn't, and that the permissions are correct. I've been able to try permissions set as "0644" and also "0755" for that file, and neither work. Is there another configuration that may succeed? Or is there another related file (that is called for within emailfriend.php, for example) that we should be checking the set permissions for?

Thanks,
Chris

I would doubt it's permissions you have set but rather the possibility they may have it blacklisted.

0644 would be appropriate for that file
