Hi all,

We are currently running ECT 6.9.5 / PHP v7 / MySQL 5.7

Our "search" results don't work as expected.

When searching "all words" with pDescription included in the search parameters, if one searched word is in the product name and the other word is in the description, no results are returned.

Eg.

pName = "Moods Finissimo Black Cloakroom Monobloc Basin Mixer Tap DITS1156"
pDescription = "120 x 100mm (Height x Spout projection) black mini basin mixer tap. Minimum operating pressure 0.5 Bar suitable for medium pressure system. Bathrooms to Love Collection."

Searching "Bathrooms to Love" = FOUND
Searching "Finissimo" = FOUND

Searching "Bathrooms to Love Finissimo" = NOT FOUND

Is there a way to combine the various product fields so that the search treats as one large string?

Thanks,

David - HomeSupply.co.uk

Hi David

That scenario would come under "Any Words" instead of "All Words" - can you try that on your site and let us know if the result is returned?

Hi Andy,

Thank you for being so prompt as usual.

The problem with "Any word" is that it now opens up a massive number of results (>8500) for what should be quite a specific product range.

I'm guessing this is down to the word "to".

I understand your explanation, however, this renders the current search ineffective for larger product libraries.

Would it be possible to enhance the search so that it ran each word in the search through the applicable search fields and then created a "found" flag if successful.

If all words in the search had a "found" flag this would be deemed as a "hit" and display the product(s)?

Or, could the product name be concatenated with the description (and perhaps pID and pSKU) for the purposes of the search?

Is this covered in a later version or perhaps someone has already created a mod?

Best regards,

David

One thing you could do is use the search words feature https://www.ecommercetemplates.com/phphelp/ecommplus/parameters.asp#showtags - would that help here?

Andy - I've just tried adding "Bathrooms to love" as a "search word" to one of the affected products and now the "All words" search works 100% as expected - brilliant!

So, that means the search code does at least partially combine the fields (in this case pName & pSearchParams), but not for pDescription & pName.

Nevermind, your solution is perfectly do-able, thank you!

Regards,

David

It's also good for SEO, reinforcing the important keywords and for users if you have the keywords linked to the search so they can view products which share keywords.

Andy,

To be honest, I've not enabled their display on the front-end, although it might be a good idea given what you said.

Thanks again,

David
